Gateway to Glacier National Park

A resort town nestled among the snow-capped Rockies of northern Montana, Whitefish is a year-round mountain haven. Founded in the late 1800s, the town was a major logging site before it became the mecca of outdoor recreation it is today. In the winter, Whitefish Mountain Resort welcomes more than 350,000 skiers to its vast and pleasantly uncrowded terrain. In the summer, the nearby Glacier National Park beckons, with its jaw-dropping vistas and more than 700 miles of superb hiking trails.     Like many mountain destinations, Whitefish sees warmer days with significantly cooler nights, sometimes dropping as much as 40°F. But winters are relatively mild—considering the town’s elevation—with highs in the 30s thanks to its location near Northwest Montana’s myriad lakes. In the summer, temperatures hover pleasantly in the high 70s and low 80s.
