Aspen’s Laid-back Side

A more casual alternative to the glitz and glamour of nearby Aspen, Snowmass is a perfect ski destination for families with children—its mountain offers more than 3,000 acres of green and blue runs. Plus, it’s earned the title of second-most vertical feet of skiing of any area in the U.S. At Snowmass’ Base Village, ice skate at the outdoor rink or savor a meal at one of the many restaurants. The village's casual dress code extends to all facets of the town, especially in the off-season, as locals bike to festival concerts, sip a margarita on an outdoor patio after rock climbing near Independence Pass, or grab an early dinner on the way home from a hike.

Weather

  • Forecasting Your Snowmass Vacation

If it's snowing in Aspen, it will most likely be snowing in Snowmass Village, with the area seeing well over 200 inches of snowfall on average each winter. Like any Colorado mountain destination, plan for anything: at more than 8,000 feet elevation, the weather can be unpredictable. Summers, though, tend to be warm and dry with chilly evenings, while fall offers a welcome cool and bursts of color from the area’s iconic aspen trees.
