John Michael Kohler’s son, Walter, erected what is now The American Club as a progressive dormitory of sorts for its factory workers. The village of Kohler sprang up surrounding the Club, designed in partnership by the Olmsted Brothers—the same Frederick Law Olmsted who designed Central Park.
